CRNCCumbria Radio & Network CommunityIndependent connections. Stronger communities.A beginner’s introduction
MeshCore is a simple way to send messages without relying on mobile signal, Wi-Fi or the internet. It uses small, low-power radios that pass messages between one another.

The simple version
Each person has a small node—a LoRa radio that connects to the MeshCore app over Bluetooth or a cable. Nearby nodes can pass a message onwards, helping it reach further than one radio alone.
There is no central tower or server to depend on. More nodes and well-placed relays can make a local mesh stronger and extend its reach.
How a message travels
What it can do
Keep in touch in rural areas, on hills, at events or during an outage.
Relay nodes in good locations can help connect people over a wider area.
MeshCore supports encrypted messaging and private group channels.
Getting started
You do not need to build an entire network on day one. Start with one node, learn the app, then connect with others.
Install the free MeshCore app on your phone or computer. It is the simple screen you use to message and manage your node.
A small compatible LoRa radio becomes your personal connection to the mesh. Start with one companion node; no licence or radio experience is needed to begin.
Use the official web flasher to put MeshCore on the node, then pair it with the app. Follow the on-screen guide and you are ready to send messages.
A practical note
Hills, buildings, antennas, weather and where nodes are placed all affect radio coverage. Treat MeshCore as a useful complementary communication tool—not a replacement for emergency services or a guaranteed delivery system.
